Markets were moving in positive territory in afternoon hours of trade and closed higher on Thursday with the Sensex gaining 278.60pts to settle at 37,393.48. The Nifty climbed 100.10 points to close at 11,257.10, emerging its key level of 11,250.
Among stocks, Zee Entertainment, Bharat Petroleum Corp, Bajaj Finance, Indian Oil Corp and Ultra Cement were the biggest gainers on the NSE. In turn, YesBank, Airtel, IndusInd Bank, Coal India and Cipla lost the most.
Except Nifty Pharma, all the sectoal indices on the NSE ended in the green with major gains in Nifty media (up 2.26%), Nifty Metal (1.17%) and Nifty realty (up 1.10%)
Shares of Bajaj Finance gained 4.04pc at Rs3124 apiece after the lender reported its earnings numbers. The finance company’s consolidated net interest income rose by 50pc to Rs3395crore in the fourth quarter FY19.
Shares of Tata Chemicals Ltd surged 8.38pc higher at Rs603.45per shares on the NSE after the company announced demerger of its consumer products business with Tata Global Beverages.
