Sensex touches 40000; Nifty tops 12000 level ahead of GDP data

Benchmark Indices start F&O June series on a high note with Nifty 12000-levels and Sensex above 40000 mark on Friday. Major contributors to Nifty were BPCL, IOC and Asiain Paints among others.

At 09:50am, the Sensex is up 246 points at 40078.25, and the Nifty up 79points at 12025.65.

IOC, BPCL, TCS and NTPC are some of the major gainers on the indices in the early trade, while losers are SunPharma, Grasim, M&M and JSW Steel

All the sectoral indices are seeing buying, led by Bankings, Financial, metal, IT, pharma, auto, FMCG and infra.

Shares of CoalIndia were trading over 3% higher on Friday after the company reported for Q4FY19 aided by good volume growth.

The most active stocks on the NSE are Coal India, NCC, Reliance and TCS.

Stock Markets would closely watch out for March quarter GDP data and the much anticipated portfolio distribution in Narendra Modi Cabinet today.
