The BSE benchmark Sensex closed 202-pt lower at 41,056, while the broader Nifty50 settled 68 points lower at 12,046.
Yes Bank slipped nearly 4 percent, followed by Coal India, ONGC, Cipla and BPCL – all down by 3 to 3.80 percent – were among major Nifty losers. Conversely, Titan rose 1.73 percent, Gail India & Nestle India added 1.59 percent each, followed by Vedanta & TCS, up by 0.85 percent, were top gainers in the Nifty.
Except for the Nifty-IT index which gained a tad higher, all the sectoral indices ended in the red. Major index losers were Nifty PSU-Bank, Nifty Realty, Nifty Pharma, Nifty Media, and Nifty Metal, down between range 1 and 2.97 percent.

State-owned (PSU) banks led significant losses as their main sub-index on the Nifty closed up 2.96 percent, led by Bank of Baroda and PNB, down by 4.43 and 4.86 percent each.
