Sensex and Nifty ended higher in the first trading day of the FY2020, but off day’s high, led by selling pressure seen in Bank Nifty, financial Service, Media, FMCG, private bank, and realty indices.
The BSE benchmark closed at 38,871.87 up 198 points, while, the NSE Nifty rose 45 points to 11,669. Tata Motors, Hindalco, Bharti Airtel, Wipro and Maruti Suzuki were the top gainers on the Nifty, whereas Zee Ent, UPL, Eicher Motors, IOC and IndusInd Bank were among major losers.
Shares of Tata Motors closed 7.49% higher at Rs187.30 on expectations of better financial results in fourth quarter, while Eicher Motors closed lower by 2.59% or Rs532.70 per share quoting share price at Rs20,015.
Out of fifty stocks in Nifty, 28 stocks ended in the green while 22 declined. Sectorally, realty stocks ended considerably lower followed by Nifty Bank, which fell 0.58% to end at 30,251.
