Sensex climbs 1028-pts, Energy stocks rally


Share market benchmark indices traded with a positive territory all though the day, overturning the losses of the last trading session.

The BSE Sensex gained 1028-pts to settle the trade at 29,468-levels on the final point of the financial year 2019-20. The Nifty ended the day at 8,598-mark, up by 317-pts.

Among sectoral indices, the Nifty FMCG index rose 5.76-pc with Britannia, ITC and Marico were the most rising constituents by 8 and 6 percent each.

The Nifty Metal index is the second rising index-up by 5.19-percent, led by SAIL, Hindalco, Hindustan Copper and Tata Steel- up by 13 and 6 percent each.

Nifty Pharma, IT, Realty and banking indices have also outperformed. In the IT space, the heavyweights such as Infosys, TCS, HCL Technologies and Reliance Industries closed upto 8-pc higher as across the strong buying with increased volumes. Track latest best stock today updates, from here.

Oil and natural gas stocks gained momentum during the day on increased decline in the crude oil prices. The NSE Nifty energy index rallied 7-pc to 11,124-levels. BPCL, HPCL, ONGC, GAIL India and Reliance were up in the range of 14-7 percent.

Major gainers in the Nifty include BPCL, Britannia, Gail India, ONGC and UPL while IndusInd Bank, Eicher Motors, Cipla, Zee Entertainment and Bajaj Finserve were top losers.
