The Indian share benchmarks edged higher for a second consecutive day on Tuesday, helped by a surge in IT and PSU banking stocks, ahead of the expiry of futures & options contracts later this week.

The Sensex ended at 33,513, up 159 points, while the broader Nifty50 index settled at 10,686, up 57 points on closing.

The Nifty IT index settled 1.43% higher at 14225.35 led by a rise in the shares of Infosys, TCS and HCL Technologies while the Nifty PSU Bank rose 1.01% boosted  by Bank of India and SBI. In other indices, Nifty Pharma pained 1.33% and Nifty Energy index boosted 1.30% on the day.

Infosys, Bajaj Finserv, GAIL, TCS  and BCPL were among the top gainers on the Nifty, whereas Hero MotoCorp, Sun Pharma, Yes Bank, Bharti Airtel and Wipro were major losers.
