After a short recovery in the first after-noon session, the benchmark indices once again slipped into negative zone in the closing hours of trade with the Sensex falling 581 points to 28288 and the Nifty stood at 8263 down by 205 points on Thursday.
ITC, Bharti Airtel, Infosys, HDFC Bank, PowerGrid, Kotak Mahindra Bank, HeroMotorCorp, JSW Steel, Bajaj Auto, and Indian Oil Corp are the gaining stocks in the Nifty50.
Conversely, the top losers in the index include Bharti-Infratel, Zee Entertainment, Shree Cement, ONGC and BPCL.
All the sectoral indices on the Nifty closed in the red, with Nifty Auto and Metal falling the most up to 5.6 percent, while Media, Banking, Financial, Metal, and Realty down by 4 and 2 percent each.

A total of 890 securities declined to a one-year low, which includes Reliance Industries, ACC Ltd, Advanced Enzyme Technologies, Aditya Birla Capital, Ambuja Cements, APL Apollo Tubes, Allahabad Bank, Apollo Pipes, Apollo Tyres, Ashok Leyland, Bajaj Auto, Bharat Forge, Bharat Gears, and Advanced Enzyme Technologies.
Meanwhile, the Shares that touched their one-year high levels on the NSE include Bafna Pharmaceuticals, GK Wires, Gujarat Apollo Industries and Ruchi Soya Industries.
