Wednesday market witnessed high volatility for the Indian stocks, the indices swinging between gains and losses to end the day higher.
At the closing bell, the Sensex settled the day with gains of 172 points, whereas the NSE Nifty gained 53 points at 40,412.57 and 11,910.15, respectively.
GAIL India was the top gainer in the Nifty, rallying 5.31-pc higher, after falling to one-year-low Yesterday. In the Sensex pack of stocks, NTPC was the top gainer, which rose 2.77% to Rs113-per unit.
The other gainers in the Nifty stocks were Zee-Entertainment (ZEEL), NTPC, IOC and ONGC.
As reported earlier, Yes Bank shares witnessed sharp declines today. The stock closed at Rs.43.55-per unit, down by 13.85% as investors continued to worry about the fundraising plans at the bank.
IT Stocks shined with the Nifty IT index surging 183 points at 15,130.30. NIIT Tech, JustDial, Tech Mahindra and TCS were the top gainers in the index.
The Nifty Bank index too closed at 31,256.75 up by 96 points on sustained buying support in IDFC First Bank and Kotak Mahindra Bank.
Among the Realty index stocks, DLF rose as much as 6% to Rs.226.70-per unit, after hitting to a new one-year-high at Rs 227.40 on the NSE, while Oberoi Realty slipped 2.70% to Rs.509.60-per unit on the NSE.
