Indian Equity indices closed lower on Tuesday led by a fal in banking and financial stocks. The BSE Sensex closed 261-pts lower at 31,453 whereas the NSE Nifty-fifty index slipped 87-points to conclude at 9,205.
Bharti Infratel, Mahindra and Mahindra, PowerGrid, ONGC and Reliance Industies were among major gainers while State Bank of India, Bajaj Finance, Britannia, Asian Paints and Tata Motors slipped the most.
Among sectlors, Nifty Bank index and Nifty Financial Services dropped 2.30 percent and 2.03-percent respectively, while the Nifty PSU Bank index lost 3.28 percent and the Reality index slipped 2.87 percent, FMCG and Pharma were down over 1.7 percent and 1.96 percent each. Among liquor stocks United Spirits lost 8.9 percent and Radico Khaitan was down 7.21 percent after Andhra Pradesh and Delhi imposed a special tax on liquor.
