Sensex, Nifty rallied for fifth straight session on Monday. The BSE benchmark rose 307 points to 36,270 and the 50-scrip Nifty jumped 82.90 points to 10,888.35 on closing.
Tata Motors, Power Grid Corp, HDFC, Coal India and Hindalco are the major gainers on the NSE. On the other hand, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Infosys, Bharti Airtel, Bajaj Finserve and Indiabulls Housing Finance are among top losers.
The Nifty Metal index was the outperforming sectoral index which gained 2.02 percent higher driven by gains in Hindustan Copper, JIndal Steel, MOIL and Coal India among others.
Vedanta shares ended at Rs. 205.40 higher by 1.88 percent after the metal conglomerate received a favorable verdict from the NGT regarding its Sterlite copper plant in Tuticorin.
Auto shares rallied on mixed note in bourses today. Tata Motors today moved into a rally and closed at Rs. 174.50 per share, up by 4.52 percent. Tata Motor DVR also supported rally with 4.25 percent gain to close its share at Rs. 95.70 per share, after the company reported that Britain’s subsidiary JLR would cut thousands of employments in the next year.
Shares in Ashok Leyland, TVS Motors and Maruti Suzuki and Amara Raja Batteries were also marginally ended higher in trade today. On the other hand, Hero MotoCorp, Apollo Tyres, Mahindra and Mahindra and Bosch were marginally down upto 1 percent. NIFTY Auto Index ended at 9,335.80 with a marginal gain of 0.69 percent
