The key benchmarks extended early gains today, 18 April 2017, with the Sensex rising nearly 265.42 points or 0.90% at 29,679.08 at 10.30 am, while the NSE Nifty- gained 76.50 points at 9,215.80. The BSE Midcap and BSE Smallcap indices rose 1% each on strong breadth.
Metal stocks gained. Vedanta Ltd rose up 3.92%, SAIL (Steel Authority of India) rose 1.79%, Hindustan Zinc rose 1.02%, Jindal Steel & Power rose 3.05%, Hindalco Industries went up 4.19%, Hindustan Copper Ltd rose 1.21% in the morning hours. Tata Steel Ltd rose 2.06% after the steel major to consider fund raising proposal.
The rupee opened flat at 64.50 per USD today against previous close of 64.51. Copper edged lower in the commodity markets globally.
Overseas, Asian stocks have been trading on a mixed note. U.S stocks as investors turned their mind to first-quarter corporate earnings.
