Benchmark indices ended fall with investors sentiments dented by the IMF lowering global economic growth outlook. The BSE Sensex closed 353.87 points lower at 38,585.35 and the NSE Nifty closed 11,584.30 after declining 88 points.

Markets continued to remain volatile as Nifty and Bank Nifty both have posted a sharp selling pressure in closing hour of the trade. Major heavy weight stocks such as Bharti Airtel Asian Paints and HDFC Bank closed at intraday fall, shedding 2% to 3% in range.

Bharti Airtel, Hindalco, AsianPaints, TCS and UPL were the top losers on the Nifty, while Tata Motors, Cipla, Wipro and Adani Ports were among major gainers of the index.

Except Pharma and Auto, all other sectoral segments ended in red led by bank, financials, PSU Bank, IT, metal, IT, Energy and Infra.  On the other hand, the NSE Nifty Realty Index was the top sectoral laggard, up 1.13%, led by major gains in IndiaBulls RealEstate, Oberoi Realty and Godrej Properties.
